Bluegold

Location: Huntington Beach, CA

Type: Restaurant & Bar

Size: 8700 sq ft

Bluegold celebrates the history of the Golden State and the Spanish missions that dot the coast and tawny hills Southern California. Stone walls, exposed beams and heavy wood doors, all features of traditional mission architecture, have been reinterpreted through the use of modern materials. The grey wood tone of the ceiling and white chiseled limestone is paired with rich walnut veneers and supple leather furniture to give the space a warm, contemporary feel. Engraving details and patterns of traditional Spanish armor inspired the decorative screens at the entry while strapping details throughout honor traditional mission ironwork.

LSXO

Location: Huntington Beach, CA

Type: Restaurant & Speak Easy

Size: 1200 sq ft

Hidden within Bluegold, behind an unassuming door, lies a secret restaurant and bar. This “eat-easy” is a hidden outpost of the The Little Sister restaurants, featuring a rich menu borne out of the collision of cultures during the colonial period of Southeast Asia. With seating for 30, LSXO was inspired by the shophouses of Colonial Saigon and combines traditional European architecture with southeast Asian details. The most notable feature of the space: faux back-lit lathe and plaster walls that, come evening, exude a warm glow through gaps in the plaster, expanding on the concept of a hidden room.

Paley

Location: Hollywood, CA

Type: Historic Preservation, Restaurant & Bar

Size: 7800 sq ft

Located at Columbia Square, the original home of CBS Radio Studios, Paley is the anchor restaurant of the new NeueHouse development, and part of a multi-million dollar historic preservation project on Sunset Boulevard. Built in 1938, Columbia Square was the epicenter of Hollywood Broadcasting, featuring such stars as Bob Hope, Cecile B. DeMille, Judy Garland, and Lucille Ball. During its heyday, the studio restaurant catered to stars and executives alike, soon earning a reputation as the home of the Hollywood power lunch. Paley, named for the original chairman of CBS, William H. Paley, re-imagines that bygone culture for the modern age, drawing from both the Modernist and Streamline design movements that defined the era. Terrazzo floors and tambour walls reference the style of the period, while playful brass details in the ceiling and columns are a subtle nod to vintage radio details.

Stripsteak Waikiki

Location: Honolulu, HI

Type: Restaurant & Bar

Size: 8000 sq ft

How do you approach the design of a steakhouse in Honolulu’s new International Market Place, that doesn’t draw from the usual Hawaiian cliches, but still exudes island charm?Watch a British spy movie, of course.

Stripsteak Honolulu began with Bond, James Bond, and references the famous modernist architecture of every villains’ secret lair. Be it on a remote desert island, or hidden inside a volcano, the mid-century styling of the villain’s lair feels right at home in this tropical paradise, while adding a subtle nod to the romanticized Hawaii of the 1960’s.

Bardot Brasserie

Location: Aria Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada

Type: Renovation / Restaurant & Bar

Size: 7800 sq ft

Located in Aria Casino in Las Vegas, Bardot Brasserie embraces the ex-patriot culture that thrived in Paris in the 1920’s. Celebrating the writers and artists that flocked to Paris post World War I, Bardot also draws from film noir, employing a mix of low lighting and dramatic shadows. Heavy black paneling with gold pin-striping, waxed plaster walls, and brass detailing seamlessly come together to create a seductive, sexy space where one wouldn’t be surprised to see Hemingway or Fitzgerald drinking at a nearby table.

Bourbon Steak Monarch Beach

Location: Dana Point, CA

Type: Renovation / Restaurant & Bar

Size: 5500 sq ft

When approached by Chef Michael Mina to remodel the existing Stonehill Tavern at Monarch Beach Resort, the challenge was clear: update the concept of the old school steakhouse to fit within the newly remodeled coastal resort. Referencing John Wayne, an original resident of the community, the goal was to create a space where the “man’s-man” would feel comfortable sipping a scotch, but would also appeal to the ladies who lunch of Orange County. The result is a light, open concept, that embraces the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean with a modern, coastal palette. Traditional wood paneling, rich leathers, and menswear fabrics all herald the classic steakhouse but have been softened for that Southern California vibe.

Cal Mare

Location: Los Angeles, California

Type: Restaurant & Bar

Size: 9000 sq ft

California. Cal, short for California, and Mare, “sea” in Italian, Cal Mare evokes the vibrant seaside elegance of Italy’s Amalfi Coast with a nod to contemporary Southern California living. Referencing Chef Adam Sorbel’s travels with his grandmother, the brick vaults and sun-bleached plaster allude to classic Italian architecture while cascades of bougainvillea and clusters of olive trees are synonymous with both regions. Layers of marble mosaics and glazed tile in varying shades of blue and green add a touch of whimsy to the space, emphasizing the connection to the sea.

The Chandler Steakhouse

Location: MGM Resort and Casino, Springfield, MA

Type: Restaurant & Bar

Size: 8000 sq ft

Located in the new MGM Resort and Casino in Springfield, MA, The Chandler Steakhouse is the property’s premier fine dining restaurant. Drawing inspiration from the collection of historic downtown buildings incorporated into the resort and referencing Springfield as the home of Websters Dictionary; The Chandler features traditional wood paneling and brass accents throughout. The upholstered and heavily distressed red leather walls are reminiscent of a worn leather bound book and provide a striking contrast to the layers of art that reference the history of the local community.
